However, not every move is good news.
At certain points in their careers, some players decide they no longer want to stay with their current club and request a transfer, asking the organization to sell them so they can move on to a new chapter.
This is the case of Nicolás Fernández Mercau and New York City FC. The Argentine striker requested a transfer to a different club, but what happened did not sit well with the player.

Here's what happened, for anyone who hasn't been following the story over the past few hours.
As is often the case when a player is unhappy with his situation at a club, he asked the organization to consider any incoming offers so he can move on while still allowing the club to receive a transfer fee.
The 26-year-old striker made that request. However, New York City FC appears to have other plans for the Buenos Aires native.
According to reports, the club recently rejected an $18 million offer for Mercau despite his market value being around $8.5 million.
The decision reportedly did not sit well with the 26-year-old, who has now decided not to renew his contract with the Pigeons.
Although we don't know the details behind the player's dissatisfaction, the former San Lorenzo player made it clear that he wants to leave the club.
However, even though he does not want to renew his deal, the striker is under contract with the Pigeons through 2029.
From what can be inferred, though, New York City FC's intention is to extend his contract for several more years.
During his time at New York, Fernández Mercau played 37 games, recording 15 goals and six assists.
Amid the recent rumours linking the Pigeons with Romelu Lukaku, a transfer would make sense, not just to clear up the position, but also in financial terms.
The truth is that one can’t understand how NYCFC rejected an offer that reimburses more than double the money you paid for him.
However, one hypothesis is that until nothing is confirmed and clear with Lukaku’s environment, the Pigeons would not let go of their best striker, unless they have a replacement who is equally good or even better than him.
