Inter Miami’s Challenge

Tata Martino's brief tenure crystallized the vision of an Inter Miami team that wants to compete, entertain, and fight its way into relevance in an increasingly cutthroat league. It's now on the front office to appoint someone who can uphold this vision and take the club a step further, which isn't a normal decision, considering that, as Giovanni Savarese-another potential candidate-Venezuelan coach stated, "The next coach has to understand the peculiarities of MLS.".

I think it's important for me that the coach knows the league and knows how it is. All that makes a difference in a league as strange as MLS," Savarese told El Diario de NY. His experience with elite players such as Raúl and Marcos Senna, along with an in-depth knowledge of Latin culture, makes him believe he is prepared for this job that Martino left vacant.

Is Savarese the Right Fit?

Savarese has made no secret of his ambitions to take over the reins at Inter Miami. Having enjoyed a decent MLS career-being the first Venezuelan coach to shine, he feels his credentials would fit just right in leading the star-studded and culturally diverse squad that are the Herons.

"I have coached top players, and I think my profile can be ideal for the club," he said. He also emphasized how important a coach who speaks the same language and shares the same culture as his team is. With Messi and Suárez leading an attack, having a Spanish-speaking coach who will connect with the players isn't just a bonus, but almost a necessity.

Still, the final decision rests with the front office and, of course, Messi, whose influence on the club’s choices is undeniable. The hiring of Martino, his former coach for Argentina and Barcelona, already showed just how much weight Messi’s voice carries.

Messi’s Influence on the Next Coach

Lionel Messi is the running heart of Inter Miami. His coming made the club an overnight sensation, and their expectations reached the sky-high level. He'll have something to say, no doubt, about who takes over as coach.

It's not a normal task, managing a team with Messi in it. It needs to be someone who can deal with all that pressure and cultural expectation. It would need someone who knows MLS inside and out-but also is experienced working with world-class players, someone like Savarese balances that right-but will it be enough?

The next manager of Inter Miami will require more than a great résumé to get the job. They'll have to galvanize a diverse squad, shape a clear tactical identity, and above all, maximize the talents of Messi and Suárez-not to mention the rest of the Herons. It is one that requires tact, leadership, and the utmost understanding of what it means to lead a team under the world's watchful eye.
