MLS Matchday 33 was incredible. This is a weekend that will be remembered in league history due to the excitement and drama all over the weekend. From last-second winners to record-setting performances, the action was non-stop.
Four hat-tricks rewrote the record books
For the first time in MLS history four different players scored hat-tricks on the same matchday: Thomas Müller, Denis Bouanga, Diego Rossi and Idan Toklomati. Each of those performances was the difference maker that night , and the fact that they all happened across the 15 game slate made the night special.
- Thomas Müller: a hat-trick and an assist in Vancouver Whitecaps' 7–0 win over Philadelphia.
- Denis Bouanga: three goals in LAFC’s 4–2 win over San Jose at Levi’s Stadium.
- Diego Rossi: a first-half hat-trick as Columbus built a 5–0 lead in a wild 5–4 win at Atlanta United.
- Idan Toklomati: first career hat-trick in Charlotte’s 3–0 win over Inter Miami
57 goals: a matchday for the record books
Across the 15 games that made up Matchday 33, MLS teams scored 57 goals, tying the 2022 record of the most in a single matchday in league history.
26 of the 30 teams scored and more than 2/3 of the games had 3 or more goals. The output (and the four hat-tricks) made this matchday one of the most fun offensive slates in MLS history.
Evander’s stoppage-time winner
FC Cincinnati’s night was different in tone but just as dramatic. Trailing Nashville SC late, Evander scored in the 8th minute of second half stoppage time to turn a 1–1 game into a 2–1 win at TQL Stadium. The goal locked up a playoff spot for Cincinnati and will be a highlight reel for a long time. The club’s official recap and match reports will tell you all about the timing and importance of the goal.
All in all, Matchday 33 had big implications around the league.
