Jonathan Gómez is going to be getting some senior minutes this season.

Club Deportivo Mirandés and Real Sociedad have reached an agreement for the loan of full back Jonathan Gómez. The loan expires next summer and does not include a buy option.

Gómez, 21, joined Real Sociedad in 2022 in a deal worth $100,000 from Louisville City FC.

A Texas native, Gómez began his career in the vaunted FC Dallas academy, joining at the age of 12. The defender emerged as a star in the system, quickly progressing and making his debut for the Dallas reserve team, North Texas SC in 2019.

As a Mexican-American dual national, Gómez is eligible to represent both countries and has appeared in friendlies at senior level for both since 2021.

In search for first-team minutes, Gómez embarked on a route becoming much more common these days. Like fellow defenders Joshua Wydner and Kobi Henry, Gómez left the comfort of an MLS system for the USL. A move that seemingly paid off as planned. Gómez made 39 appearances for Louisville City before Real Sociedad came calling.

During his two years in the Basque Country, Gómez has yet to appear for the senior team. 42 appearances for Real Sociedad B have prepared Gómez for Mirandés and the Segunda Division once again. Having played a bit role in his teams’ relegation in 21/22, the fullback returns still young but much more refined and likely motivated.
