D.C. United and forward Taxi Fountas have mutually agreed to terminate his contract, effective immediately, the club announced Thursday.
In a shocking and disappointing turn of events, D.C. United has made the decision to terminate Taxi Fountas’ contract after a troubling racism incident involving another player. The Greecian forward, once viewed as a promising addition to the team’s roster, now faces serious consequences for his actions.
This Incident is not the first time Fountas has faced such allegations. Back in 2022, he was the subject of a league investigation regarding alleged racially abusive language directed towards an Inter Miami CF player during an Eastern Conference game. While the allegations were considered credible, they couldn’t be independently verified.
Originally joining D.C. United ahead of the 2022 MLS season from Rapid Vienna, Fountas held the designation of a DP spot and reparented Greece internationally.
"“There is no place for racism, homophobia, misogyny, or discrimination of any kind in our sport and world and D.C. United do not tolerate any acts of this nature.” said D.C. United in a statement."
