NYCFC is continuing to add to its ranks following several departures.

Following the acquisition of Julián Fernández, NYCFC are acquiring midfielder Andres Perea on loan from the Philadelphia Union. Perea, 22, joined the Union this past offseason in a trade from Orlando City but has struggled for minutes. Across 11 appearances, the midfielder has managed only 338 minutes.

Born in Tampa, Florida, Perea moved to Colombia at age five and joined the Atlético Nacional academy. Perea made his professional debut in 2017 for Atlético, making 14 appearances before moving to Orlando City. In Orlando, Perea became a regular under Óscar Pareja, making 86 appearances across three seasons. While in Orlando, the former Colombian youth international switched allegiance to the United States. In 2021, he would make his senior debut for the USMNT.

Not likely to bring much creativity, but Perea will bring plenty of steel. Primarily a defensive midfielder, the 22-year-old is best recycling possession and winning the ball. Perea displays natural instincts, putting himself in good positions to defend rather than relying on physicality.

NYCFC will pay $300k in General allocation money for the midfielder. The loan does not include an option to buy.

The Union and Perea will hope this move can reignite a career that has seemingly stalled.
