Alphonso Davies has been a star for Bayern Munich since joining them from the Vancouver Whitecaps. AS has reported that Real Madrid is planning to make him a Galáctico. However, the Spanish website revealed that they will wait until 2024 when Davies will have just a year left on his Bayern contract.
Davies made 65 MLS appearances for the Whitecaps, where he scored eight goals and made 12 assists. For Bayern, he has already won the biggest trophies including the Champions League, the Club World Cup and the Bundesliga four times.
Canada may have gone out in the group stage in Qatar, but it was their first World Cup since 1986 where they failed to score a single goal.
Davies had the chance to get his county’s first-ever goal in the competition in their first match against Belgium. However, his penalty was saved by Thibaut Courtois and Canada lost 1-0.
Real Madrid are looking into a possible Alphonso Davies transfer
In their second game against Croatia, Davies put his spot-kick miss behind him and scored an early-headed goal. But they went on to lose 4-1.
Their final game also ended in a 2-1 defeat to Morocco, with the African side going on to reach the semi-finals.
Canada may have lost all their games but Davies did finally get his county a World Cup goal. He remains the only Canadian to score in the tournament, as their other goal against Morocco was Nayef Aguerd’s own goal.
Real Madrid would be a tempting move
Davies is already at a massive club in Bayern, but a move to Madrid could be hard to resist. It was too much for Toni Kroos, who made the move back in 2014. Los Blancos are the current holders of the Champions League, and it would be a chance for Davies to compete in a different European league.
But with Bayern, he has already played 134 times and if he continues his longevity at the club he would become a legend. Fabrizio Romano has also announced that the German club are preparing to discuss new contacts with Davies, Jamal Musiala and Lucas Hernandez.
Real Madrid is planning to build on their squad too, with the club linked with Jude Bellingham. The Spanish side is also one of the only sides capable of signing Kylian Mbappe or Erling Haaland. This would create another ‘Galácticos’-style lineup in Madrid. The club is looking to the future, if they can sign the players they are linked with, they could have a phenomenal squad. Davies being an attacking left-back, he could be for Madrid like Roberto Carlos was for their side.
The Canadian is becoming a global star, and the possibility of seeing him in the white of Madrid, ahead of the 2026 World Cup would be great for North American soccer. The tournament in less than four years’ time is being co-hosted by the USA, Canada and Mexico.
Canada has already qualified, as they are one of the host nations. They will be looking to build on the progress made in Qatar but will have ambitions of going further in the competition.
