Leeds United midfielder Mateusz Klich is set to sign for DC United. Wayne Rooney’s side finished bottom of the Eastern Conference last season, and the former Derby County boss is wasting no time in strengthening the team ahead of next season.

According to MLS Soccer, “D.C. United are in advanced talks to sign Poland international central midfielder Mateusz Klich from Leeds United. The deal isn’t 100% done but has reached advanced stages. Klich wouldn’t be a Designated Player if the deal gets over the line.”

Although, Klich was not involved with Poland at the World Cup this year. He has amassed 41 caps for his country and will no doubt improve the Black and Red.

Klich is a very experienced player, who has played in Poland with MKS Cracovia and in Germany with VfL Wolfsburg II and FC Kaiserslautern. He also played in the Netherlands with PEC Zwolle, FC Twente and FC Utrecht.

Mateusz Klich looks likely to sign for DC United

He is now in England with Leeds, so clearly he is not afraid to up sticks. At 32 now, the time looks right to leave Europe and head to North America.

His career, however, has not been glittered with trophies. He has won just the KNVB Cup with PEC Zwolle and the EFL Championship with Leeds.

Winning the Championship with Leeds is a massive achievement though, and Klich has helped establish them as a Premier League side. In total, he has made 192 appearances for the Whites, scoring 24 goals with 21 assists.

He has still played 11 times in the Premier League this season. However, these have all come off the bench, and he recently scored for the club in a friendly win over the Spanish side Elche.

Speaking about Klich’s future to the BBC after the game, Leeds manager Jesse Marsch, who also used to play for DC United said, “It’s not totally clear yet. We should hold off on saying anything, There’s been conversations but nothing’s concrete. Obviously, there’s a lot of love for Mateusz in the group, he’s been incredible.”

What will he offer DC United?

DC United need to improve on last season and a player of Klich’s experience will definitely help the side. He is a central midfielder who can also play an attacking role with a clear eye for goal.

Since Rooney has taken over at the club, he has signed Christian Benteke and Ravel Morrison from English clubs. Benteke scored just one goal in seven games, while Morrison found the back of the net twice in 13 matches and would link up well with Klich in midfield.

With these signings and the manager they have, DC will be expected to at least make the playoffs next season. Although Klich is coming to MLS for the latter part of his career, he will be expected to deliver.

With his talent, he should be a great asset to the team and a player his teammates can learn from. Hopefully, for him, he will be able to end his career on a high and maybe even collect another trophy.
