Manchester United interested in Leeds United and USMNT’s Tyler Adams
He may have only made ten appearances for a struggling Leeds United side this season. However, Tyler Adams has already made an impression that has interested Manchester United
According to Football Insider:
“Man United are keeping close tabs on Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams. The Premier League giants have a long-time interest in the USA international dating back to his RB Leipzig days. United are continuing to monitor Adams as they shortlist potential central midfield captures.”
Would Adams be a good fit for the Red Devils?
Tyler Adams had a tough task filling in midfield at Leeds as they lost Kalvin Philips to Manchester City during the summer. But the American has impressed in a defensive role despite the Yorkshire side struggling for form.
Leeds has not won in Premier League since they beat Chelsea 3-0 and that was eight games ago. They are currently in the relegation zone which has heaped a load of pressure on their manager Jesse Marsch.
Their winless run does not look like it will turn around soon as they have a tough run of fixtures starting with Liverpool this Saturday. There have been calls for Marsch to be sacked which would be a blow for Adams who played under at him New York Red Bulls and RB Leipzig.
Adams started his career in New York where he made 74 appearances before moving to Leipzig. He played 103 times in total for the German side, including 14 games in the Champions League.
Honours at club level for Adams include the MLS Supporters Shield and DFB-Pokal. He is 23 years old now and would want to win more trophies. Manchester United may not have won a trophy since the 2017 Europa League but Eric ten Hag is in the process of rebuilding the club. Adams would be much more likely to win trophies in Manchester than at Leeds.
Ten Hag’s side currently has Casemiro who operates in their defensive midfield role. The Brazilian is now 30 and Adams would be seen as a long-term replacement for him.
Adams has 32 caps for the USMNT and has won the CONCACAF Nations League with the side. He is expected to play a key role for Gregg Berhalter’s side at the World Cup in Qatar.
Tyler Adams switching Leeds for Manchester would not go down well
Manchester United’s rivalry with Leeds United is one that goes back to the War of the Roses. This was a conflict between the houses of York and Lancaster.
Players including Eric Cantona, Rio Ferdinand and Alan Smith have made the move from Leeds to Manchester. They have not been welcomed back with open arms at Elland Road for making the move.
Adams may still be relatively new at Leeds but should understand the rivalry and would know the consequences if the move was to come to fruition.
The Whites are in danger of going down if results do not improve and a player of Adams’ quality should be playing at the top level. So he should do what is best for his career but for now, his focus must be on helping Leeds up the table.
