The goals this week seemed to include a lot more technical finishes with expert dribbling before the shot. So without further ado…

Goal of the Week

F Darwin Quintero (Houston Dynamo) – (45+2nd minute right footed shot to beat the keeper after dribbling around a defender).

This was a quality goal for several reasons for Quintero. The first being the fantastic touch to control the ball on the cross into the box. Quintero then was able to expertly dribble between two defenders before putting a shot past the Chicago keeper across the goal from about seven yards out. It’s not always about just the finish (this one was a quality one as well), but also about what led up to it, which Quintero showcased here.

The goal is Quintero’s sixth of the season, and it helped Houston pick up a big 2-0 win over Chicago as the Dynamo attempt to claw back into the Western Conference playoff race.

Honorable mentions:

Romell Quioto

Luis Araujo

Ralph Priso

Indiana Vassilev

Quioto scored a big goal in Montreal’s win as he shot the ball through a defenders legs and past the Charlotte keeper. Araujo and Priso both had really nice duelling goals in the same match. Araujo scored the equalizer for Atlanta after a really nice showing of control on the ball before slotting it into the net with his left foot. Priso later responded with the game-winner. He put a strong shot past the young Atlanta keeper from right outside the box in the 78th minute to get Toronto three big points.

I’m including the first of two goals from Indy Vassilev on the HM list (even though both were quality). He split two defenders on a well-timed run to receive a through pass before putting the ball right into the top of the net for what was the equalizer. He would also later add the game-winner.
