Non Playoff Teams

8: LA Galaxy

Los Angeles Galaxy rule the roost as the lords of MLS Cup rings, but they are a shadow of their former selves. Being the best of the worst in these Power Rankings will be little consolation. Reshuffling the deck may be on the cards next season but if they draw some aces, their playoff absence can likely end next season.

9: LAFC

Bob Bradley has made his inevitable departure, and there could be more to come as goals were hard to come by (even with Chicho Arango’s surge). LAFC were an expansion side whose ambitions mirrored that of Atlanta United. Well, one team checked that box. For the other, it’s check-out time.

10: San Jose Earthquakes

It’s a sad goodbye to MLS goalscoring goat Chris Wondolowski, although he remains a part of this organization within the front office as an assistant. Quakes fans, who are all too used to seeing their club near the bottom of Power Rankings, are braced for another offseason of Matias Almeyda departure rumors.

11: Austin FC

Austin FC got numerous “welcome to the big leagues moments” this season, but the growing pains may pave their way for brighter skies in 2022 as they have a solid foundation.

12: FC Dallas

Ricardo Pepi is a gem and he is probably gone this offseason. The youth academy is booming. That’s about it

13: Houston Dynamo

Houston Dynamo, here are your 2021 MLS participation medal (aka the Western Conference Power Rankings wooden spoon). Go home. Not even NASA wants to deal with these problems.
