A big three points for Minnesota United this weekend

Minnesota United is back on the right track, a 2-1 win on Saturday night at the Houston Dynamo helping to lift ‘the Loons’ out of a late summer slump.

The win comes after a stretch of three games without a win for Minnesota United, a span that includes two draws and where they scored just one goal.

A brace by Adrien Hunou secured the full points on the road for Minnesota United.

“Tonight I think this group that we had out there and who were available knew what we were going to get into and that it was going to be a battle for 90 plus minutes, and its hot,” midfielder Ethan Finley said after the match.

“It’s three points but it feels like a bonus one with everything  we have been dealing with as a group. We knew that the group that started and was available for this game was more than capable.”

It was just the second loss of the season for the Dynamo at BBVA Compass Stadium. Houston hasn’t won in their last 15 matches.

With the win, Minnesota United remains in fifth place in the Western Conference with an 8-6-7 record (31 points).

Minnesota United gets Hunou rolling

Perhaps as good as the three points is for Minnesota United, getting Hunou on the scorer’s sheet is perhaps equally as vital. A signing this spring, the Frenchman is a big piece of what Minnesota United is hoping will get them over the hump in the Western Conference.

Hunou now has four goals since signing in MLS in May, but Saturday’s pair was the first time he has scored since late June.

“He got in good spots. I keep telling him he’s got to keep believing and getting in the right areas. I liked his first goal, because I don’t think he spends enough time in those danger spots close enough to the goal,” Minnesota United head coach Adrian Heath said after the match.

“And then his second one is a lovely finish, very composed. I’m pleased for him. I’m pleased for the group to be honest with you. It is difficult when you’ve been saying the same things, and keep believing in what we are doing and results will come. If you look at our last three results, for us to only have a couple of points is criminal really with how we have played. So to get a win here, where some might have said we were fortunate. This is a just reward for what we have done the previous three games where we haven’t really got any reward. Tonight we rode our luck a little bit at times.”
