Sources tell ‘MLS Multiplex’ that Duncan, in the final season of his contract with the Red Bulls, has garnered significant interest in Europe. And while a club source says that the Red Bulls are looking to extend Duncan’s stay with the team, the caliber of clubs interested in the young American might be difficult to turn away.
Ligue 1 sides Montpellier, Metz and Reims are interested in Duncan a source said (Montpellier and Metz interest was reported last month by The Athletic). The source also said that two Belgian clubs, KV Oostende and Anderlecht, are also interested in Duncan should he be out of contract at the beginning of next year.
Kyle Duncan a rising MLS star
Kyle Duncan, who has been capped once with the United States national team, is one of the top right backs in MLS. The recently turned 24-year old has established himself in the Red Bulls Starting XI, with 20 appearances this season (19 starts) and 1,665 minutes played.
In four years at Red Bull Arena, Duncan has 60 matches played (57 starts) totaling 5,006 minutes of league action. He has five goals and eight assists during his MLS career.
While he is a natural right back, Duncan also has filled in at left back in a pinch.
Duncan came up through the Red Bulls Academy but turned down an MLS contract to sign with Valenciennes in Ligue 2 after high school. He did not appear for the French club at the senior team level.
His play with the Red Bulls has been solid over the past three seasons. Blessed with pace, Duncan is solid positionally and tactically. He presses well and overlaps from the outside back position, bringing some much needed width to the team’s narrow midfield.
The Red Bulls are struggling a bit this year, sitting in tenth place in the Eastern Conference.
There are no option years remaining on Duncan’s contract.
