Colorado Rapids are finally getting their due
If Taylor Twellman said it, then it must be true. The Colorado Rapids are legitimately a good MLS team.
And of course, we’ve been high on the Colorado Rapids and head coach Robin Fraser for awhile. Just read this article…or this one…or definitely this one from us. Perhaps we are the Twellman whispers.

There was also this tweet saying that Fraser is a frontrunner for MLS Coach of the Year. OK, we’re probably hyping up the obvious here a bit too much. It is just good to see the Rapids and their head coach getting their dues.
Or perhaps, the ESPN analyst just knows a good solid team when he sees one. And Twellman is right about Colorado.
But in the here and almost now, Saturday’s 3-1 win at the Houston Dynamo is just the latest example of a Colorado Rapids performance that was solid all over the field. After this result on the road, this is a team that no one wants to potentially face in the playoffs.
The Rapids have now won four matches on the road this season.
The win saw three different scorers for Fraser’s side, typical of their approach and how this team was built with balance in mind by general manager Padraig Smith. Goals by Lalas Abubakar, Michael Barrios and Braian Galvan paced the win for the fourth place Rapids.
“It was really difficult conditions—it’s really hot and humid here, as everyone knows. Certainly that presents a challenge in and of itself. Houston is a good team at home and certainly very good on counter attacks as we see,” Fraser said.
“So overall, very proud of the effort we put out tonight. I think it was a really good team win in a place that difficult to play against a good opponent. They obviously haven’t lost here all year so we know that they’re really strong at home and for us to come in and put out a performance like that, I was really, really proud of the team.”
With the win at the Dynamo, the Rapids are now 9-4-4 (31 points) on the season.
The Colorado Rapids are road warriors
The win also showed something else from the Colorado Rapids, who went into a tough environment against a building Dynamo side that had yet to lose at home until Saturday night. It was a thorough and impressive three points from Colorado, a result that underscores this team’s resolve and balance.
“I thought we played in a very difficult place and we fought hard. We fought for each other. We got the win. It wasn’t easy, especially when you’re up a goal in the first half and then at the end of the first half you give up a goal,” said Rapids defender Lalas Abubakar.
“We came to the locker room and it was a test for us to go back in the second half and see what we are capable of and I think all the guys came up big and we grinded and got the 3-1 win.”
