Colorado Rapids add a forward from Nashville SC

Earlier this week, the Colorado Rapids acquired Mark-Anthony Kaye to help solidify their midfield. Now on Thursday, they made a move for Dominique Badji, getting the forward in a trade with Nashville SC.

Badji comes to the Rapids from fellow Western Conference side Nashville SC.  The move involves the Rapids sending Nashville SC $50,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) and potentially another $50,000 in GAM should Badji re-sign with his new club in 2022.

The 28-year old forward has made just five appearances with Nashville SC this year, playing 187 minutes and registering an assist. Last year, he played 12 times for the then expansion side, scoring a goal and adding two assists.

Primarily a center forward with Nashville SC, Badji does at times like to float out wide.

Earlier this week, the Rapids acquired the aforementioned Kaye, adding a central midfielder who patrols the area in front of the back line and covers lots of space in terms of his back-tracking and ability to read the game.

Leaving Nashville SC for the Colorado Rapids…again

While Badji spent his last two years in MLS with Nashville SC, the start of his career in the league came in 2015 with the Colorado Rapids where he was No. 67th taken in the MLS SuperDraft. He came to MLS after spending four seasons at Boston University where in his final season he was named the 2014 Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year.

Those three seasons with the Rapids starting in 2015 was arguably the best and most productive stretch of his career. Badji made a total of 75 appearances for the Rapids where he had 17 goals and 10 assists during that stretch.

Then in 2018, he returned back again to the Rapids, making 16 appearances (15 starts) where he scored seven goals and had two assists.
