Mark-Anthony Kaye on the move in MLS
Mark-Anthony Kaye is heading to the Colorado Rapids, a move that should help solidify a rising team in the Western Conference.
The Canadian international, currently with his national team for the CONCACAF Gold Cup, was dealt from Los Angeles FC to the Colorado Rapids on Tuesday for $1 million in General Allocation Money (GAM).

The move for Kaye should help elevate the Rapids as they look to solidify a spot among the top teams in the MLS table and a return to the playoffs. The move was discussed on Tuesday’s edition of ‘Counter Attack’ on Sirius XM, with former United States international Tony Meola asking former English defender Matty Lawrence his thoughts on the move.
Saying that “on face value, I think Colorado benefitted the most,” Lawrence liked the move for an ambitious Rapids side.
“I would say that Colorado win this deal, I would say that Colorado, getting a very good play obviously Canadian international as you said still at the Gold Cup,” Lawrence said on the Sirius XM show.
“They’ve got somebody who not only has that national team experience but somebody who has bundles of MLS experience as well. It’s not a great transition moving one time zone across it should be relatively simplistic obviously, there’s no types of language barrier…he’s not going to – training is going be virtually the same. It’s all going to be very similar, it should be I guess what I’m trying to say is it should be a smooth transition should be seamless.
Kaye is a deep-lying midfielder. The 26-year old has 10 appearances and a goal this year with 89 appearances for LAFC where he has nine goals and 17 assists across all competitions.
Mark-Anthony Kaye overlooked at LAFC
The rangy midfielder is comfortable with the ball at his feet and reads the game well, adding the ability to shuttle the ball up the field with the Colorado Rapids.
Lawrence thinks that at LAFC, Kaye has been overlooked on a roster that is loaded with big names. With the Rapids, he might have found a place where his attributes can shine.
“And we also know that he’s a wonderful player as well I think he’s been a real bright spot for LAFC over the last couple of seasons, and obviously that’s a team who I guess you kind of overlook him a little bit, because we so often talk about Carlos Vela or Diego Rossi, possibly even Latif Blessing at times,” Lawrence said as Meola interjected Eduard Atuesta’s name to underscore how stacked LAFC is as a squad.
“He is just a terrific player I would love to have him in my side I’d love to have him. If I was playing still playing now Tony is a sensor hard for you as a goalkeeper, you’d have loved to have him patrolling just in front of that back four. He really is a terrific player.”
Kaye is currently with the Canadian national team as they are in the semifinals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
