Colorado Rapids disappoint in home draw
Lackluster result for the Colorado Rapids
The Colorado Rapids are disappointed after settling for a 1-1 draw at home against the San Jose Earthquakes. Following on some solid results in their last two outings, this one felt like a let down for the Rapids.
With the draw, the Rapids are unbeaten in their last six games at home.

Since a 3-1 loss at Sporting Kansas City on June 23, the Rapids have tied table-topping Seattle Sounders and then beat a hot Minnesota United side 2-0. Saturday night’s draw at home against the Earthquakes is certainly below standard, given that the visitors are struggling this season in MLS.
“It’s a little bit disappointing for us. We certainly felt like we could’ve gotten more out of it at home, but also give credit to San Jose who I thought came in and had a good plan and made it very difficult for us to get really good looks at the goal,” Colorado Rapids head coach Robin Fraser said after the match.
“Obviously giving a goal up early for us put us behind the 8 ball, but I was proud of the group. I don’t think we were as good tonight as we’ve been. I don’t think we were as sharp as we’ve been, but nevertheless, we hung in there and we fought. Nobody likes a tie, but it’s better than a loss at home so we certainly feel like we could’ve gotten more, but at the end of the day, I don’t think we played particularly well, so we’ll take the tie and move on.”
Cole Bassett’s second half goal, his third of the season, leveled the score for the Colorado Rapids.
With the draw, the Rapids are 6-3-3 (19 points) and tied for fourth in the Western Conference. The Earthquakes are 3-7-3 (12 points) and third from the bottom in the conference.
Colorado Rapids Toure debut
The match saw the insertion of Colorado Rapids intriguing young talent Dantouma Toure. Having done well on loan at the USL this season, Toure is a 17-year old attacking midfielder who has experience with the U16 and U17 national team.
The Homegrown was inserted into the game in the 87th minute by Fraser. He was acquired this offseason from the New York Red Bulls and signed to a Homegrown deal by the Rapids.
“Yeah, happy for the lad. It’s his debut. I thought he was busy when he came on. Proud of him. It’s nice when you get your first start or your first appearance in the first team setup,” midfielder Jack Price said.
“He’s sharp. He’s got that edge where he can take players on and he’s got a bright future ahead of him. He just has to keep his head down on the ground and keep working hard. I’m sure he’ll be okay. Delighted for him. It’s a big moment for him and his family so chomped to bits for the lad.”
