Santiago Muñóz appears to be on the verge of heading to Europe, the Santos Laguna forward reportedly drawing the interest of some of the top clubs on the continent.

And it appears that a major club in La Liga has their sites set on Santiago Muñóz, an 18-year old forward and one of the top young prospects in Liga MX and in the entire CONCACAF region.

A source tells FanSided’s ‘MLS Multiplex’ that Santiago Muñóz could be heading to La Liga club Celta Vigo and. The source, speaking on the condition of anonymity, is familiar with the negotiations and the clubs in Europe that have shown interest in Muñóz, saying that Celta Vigo has made an offer for the rising Mexican star.

The source said that Celta Vigo has had talks with Santos Laguna about a transfer move that would send Santiago Muñóz to one of the top clubs in the world.

The Texas-born forward seems intent on sticking with Mexico for his international future. At Celta Vigo, he’d be joining Néstor Araújo, a central defender who has 45 appearances for El Tri.

Last season, Celta Vigo finished eighth in La Liga with a 14-11-13 record (53 points). They were -2 on goal differential.

This past year, Muñóz broke through at Santos Laguna, making 19 appearances while scoring three goals with three assists in a very strong Mexican league. He has been a regular for a very talented Mexican U17 national team as well as his strong play for Santos Laguna.

In all likelihood, Muñóz would need to go on loan for a year to assimilate to a new league before making an impact with the senior team, should he eventually land at Celta Vigo.
