The 20-year old attacker, who primarily plays on the left wing, has made a total of four Premier League appearances for 47 minutes since joining Aston Vilas at 16-years old. He most recently was on loan in League Two with Cheltenham where he made 12 appearances as the club earned promotion to League One.
He joins Inter Miami on a season-long loan.
“Indiana is an exciting young talent who has a lot of potential,” said Inter Miami sporting director Chris Henderson in a statement released by the club on Wednesday. “He’s comfortable and confident on the ball and fluid with his movement. We feel this is the right place for Indiana to further his development and reach his potential.”
Vassilev has represented the United States from the U16 level on up to the U20 national team where he has two appearances.
A pacey wide player, Vassilev has good comfort on the ball and is talented in a 1 v. 1 situations. The season long loan promises him regular minutes at a top flite level to help his development at Aston Villa.
And Inter Miami can sure use a player to help their attack. The American youth international brings some intrigue to their attack as Indiana Vassilev projects as an instant contributor to the second-year club.
It has been a tough season for Inter Miami, who are 2-7-2 (8 points) and second from the bottom in the Eastern Conference and in the entire MLS table. Only Toronto FC (1-8-2, 5 points) has a worse record in MLS.
Offensive production has been a struggle for Inter Miami this season as they have scored a league worst nine goals. Their goals against differential is currently -8.
Inter Miami has not won a match since a 3-2 win at FC Cincinnati. Since then, they have conceded eight goals in the last five matches and have scored just once.
