It doesn’t get any easier for the Colorado Rapids with a midweek match against Minnesota United. Days removed from a big moment for the club, the Rapids face another top team in the league.

Fresh off a bit of a statement game, the Colorado Rapids are eyeing another test against one of the top teams in MLS. Minnesota United, unbeaten in their last seven games, have been one of the hottest sides in the league since losing their first four games of the season.

It is another opportunity for the Rapids, easily the best team in the league that is completely overlooked by the national media, to show their growth. The Rapids along with the Houston Dynamo are perhaps the most under-appreciated sides in MLS this year.

“It’s another really tough game for us. Minnesota’s run of form recently has been incredibly good. Another really big test for us,” Rapids head coach Robin Fraser told reporters this week.

“They’ve brought in some new players and it was only a matter of time before they started clicking. They have too many talented players to not be playing well. They’re starting to put together much more now and at the end of their attacks they’re getting something for it. As a result, their confidence grows, and they play better.”

Both teams had draws this past weekend with the Rapids securing a rather impressive 1-1 result at home against the league leading Seattle Sounders. Minnesota United was a bit disappointed with their 2-2 home result against the San Jose Earthquakes, one of the poorer sides in MLS this season.

But for Minnesota United, it was another result for a side that has 15 points from the last seven matches.

Unbeknownst to much of the league, the Colorado Rapids are a talented side with a strong spine. The draw, despite being at home last week, was against a club that has yet to lose in MLS this season. The Sounders also entered the weekend atop to the overall table and the Rapids performance, a strong one at home where they played aggressively and purpose, signaled that this is not a team to be overlooked.

The draw puts the Colorado Rapids in sole possession of fourth place in the Western Conference with a record of 5-3-2 (17 points). Minnesota United is two points behind at 4-4-3.

A win or even a draw against Minnesota United will be a big step forward towards some much-deserved respect for the Rapids.
