Source: Los Angeles FC seeking top five MLS transfer fee for Diego Rossi
Diego Rossi is generating plenty of interest in Europe, the Los Angeles FC attacker parlaying a tremendous four seasons in MLS into some serious transfer buzz.
A recent report out of England had Diego Rossi as the target of English Premier League clubs Tottenham and Everton. This won’t be the last time that the Uruguayan U23 international and Los Angeles FC forward is linked to top European clubs, especially considering he was an MLS All-Star in 2019 and named to the league’s Best XI last year.
Rossi is in fact generating interest, some significant interest from several prominent teams in Europe a source tells FanSided’s ‘MLS Multiplex.’ Most of the interest around the LA FC attacker, however, are teams looking at loan deals with an option buy. That might prove an issue for the MLS club as few top players in the league are loaned out.
The source said that the MLS club is looking for a transfer fee around $10 million with a 20 percent sell on fee, that range depending on the size of the sell-on percentage. Rossi has three goals in five appearances for Los Angeles Football Club this year.
If those valuation numbers hold true, it would make Rossi a top five outgoing transfer in the history of MLS.
All the interest in Rossi centers on a player coming into his prime who has tremendous technical ability and can break defenses down when on the dribble. The 23-year old No. 9 has 87 starts in 90 appearances for LAFC in what is now his fourth season in MLS.
Diego Rossi has 45 goals and 20 assists during his MLS career. Last year, he had 16 goals and seven assists as he won the MLS Golden Boot. He also made the CONCACAF Champions League Team of the Tournament in 2020 as Los Angeles FC made it to the finals of the tournament.
Rossi has yet to crack the senior national team for Uruguay but would seem to be knocking on the door with nine appearances for the U23 national team.
It has been a slow start to the 2021 season for LA FC as they sit outside the MLS playoff picture with a 2-3-2 record and currently on eight points.
