Hassani Dotson is going to be a Loon for awhile with Minnesota United signing the midfielder to an extension.

The Friday news drop was a good one for Minnesota United as the club is keeping a young American attacking talent in Hassani Dotson in the fold for the future. The young star has a bright future in MLS and perhaps on the international level.

Dotson is an argument for MLS keeping the SuperDraft around. In 2019 he was a second round pick, taken No. 31, who has developed into not just a regular contributor for Minnesota United but is emerging as a possible contributor for the United States national team.

He was one of the few Americans who did well in the United States failed Olympic qualifying effort earlier this year. Overall, Dotson has four appearances with the United States U23 national team.

“Everyone knows how highly I think of Hassani, since the day he got here,” Minnesota United head coach Adrian Heath said in a statement released by the team.

“It didn’t surprise when he went to play so well for the Olympic Qualifying Tournament, and then to come back and we feel as though he’s getting better and better. His best years are ahead of him. We’re so pleased he’s signed a new deal with us because we feel we have one of the best young midfielders in the MLS and we think he’ll show that over the next three or four years. There’s no end to where he can go. His next aim is solidifying his midfield place with us and moving on to get himself in that U.S. senior team, because I have no doubt he can play at that level.”

The 23-year old midfielder has seven appearances with six starts this season and a goal for Minnesota United. In three seasons, Hassani Dotson has 49 appearances and 33 starts. He has six goals and an assist and is considered one of the top young midfielders in MLS.

After a rough start to the MLS campaign where they lost their first four matches, Minnesota United has rebounded nicely to take seven points from their last three matches. They currently sit in twelfth place in the Western Conference.
