New Tactics and Chris Armas

Armas’ hiring was the most notable change made in the offseason by Toronto FC. As mentioned above, Armas got hired to take over Toronto FC and drive them in a new direction than where Greg Vanney had previously been taking his squad. Specifically, that direction was away from the possession-based intricate play of Vanney’s system and into a more aggressive pressing style of soccer.

While I was expecting some growing pains related to the adaptation of the new system and playing style, Wednesday’s match showed that TFC is very capable of executing the game plan very well. The success against Leon could be a positive sign of things to come as players appear to have bought into the system and executed to borderline perfection.
