It was a tremendous first season in MLS for Lewis Morgan, a scintillating start that is now rewarded with a new contract.

Inter Miami announced on Monday a new, long-term deal with Morgan. The English attacker enjoyed his inaugural season in MLS with expansion outfit Inter Miami. The 24-year old Morgan, previously with Celtic, had five goals and eight assists a season ago.

The deal is a multi-year deal and will utilize Targeted Allocation Money (TAM).

Prior to joining Inter Miami ahead of their first season in MLS, Morgan had spent time with Celtic after getting his start with St. Mirren in his native Scotland.  In 2019, prior to signing with Inter Miami, he also was on loan in England with Sunderland.

He also has some experience at the international level, having made two appearances for Scotland two years ago. Morgan also had a flurry of appearances for Scotland as an U21 international as well.

The move is a bit of stability for Inter Miami in what has been another tumultuous offseason.

Their first season in MLS was not a tremendous one for Miami, who struggled with consistency and had issues creating and finishing chances as well as backline issues. Inter Miami finished the season 7-13-3 with a -10 goal differential. They got soundly beaten 3-0 in the play-in round of the postseason by fellow MLS debutante Nashville.

Morgan was a bright light for the club during this time.

Inter Miami finished tenth in the Eastern Conference and nineteenth overall in the league table. This offseason, they fired highly-regarded head coach Diego Alonso and replaced him with Phil Neville.

Most recently, Neville was coach of England’s Women’s National Team. At the World Cup two years ago, he guided the squad to win their group and a semifinal appearance where they lost to the United States 2-1.

With England, he posted a 19-11-5 (W-D-L) record. Neville was star for both Manchester United and Everton during his playing days, parlaying that into 59 appearances for England’s national team.

With Manchester United and England, Neville was teammates with current Inter Miami owner David Beckham.
