FC Cincinnati are trying to sign Newcastle United midfielder Kyle Scott

FC Cincinnati are trying to sign Newcastle United midfielder Kyle Scott. Jaap Stam’s side are keen to complete a deal to bring him to MLS in time for the 2021 season and have offered him a contract, according to a report by Football Insider. An agreement is believed to be ‘close’.

Scott, who is 23 years old, is out of contract at St. James’ Park at the end of this second and he is currently due to become a free agent as it stands anyway. A move to Cincinnati would allow him to leave England a few months before his deal expires. He joined Newcastle on a free transfer in July 2019 on a two-year contract and has since been a regular for the Toon Army’s Under-23’s side.

However, the midfielder has struggled to break into their first-team and is now awaiting the green light to depart as he looks to get more game time elsewhere. Cincinnati would be able to play him more and a move there would be an exciting one for him. He will also give Stam’s side more depth and competition in midfield for the new season that starts on April 17.

Scott has represented USA at U20 level, having also played at youth levels for England and Republic of Ireland. He is also eligible for Italy. He started his career in England in the academy at Southampton before Chelsea snapped him up in 2007. He then spent 10 years on the books at Stamford Bridge and played once for the Blues’ senior side in an FA Cup clash against Hull City in 2018.

Chelsea also loaned him out to Dutch side Telstar for part of the 2018/19 season before Newcastle signed him. Scott could now be on the move again with Cincinnati keen.
