Seattle Sounders will be looking for a successful 2021 season and are eager to bounce back from their MLS Cup final defeat to Columbus Crew last time out. Here is a round-up of all the latest news surrounding them.

New winger linked

Seattle have been linked with a move for Paderborn winger Kai Proger, as per German news outlet Westfalen-Blatt. The Sounders could do with some more competition and depth in attacking areas and the German would be an interesting signing.

Proger, who is 28 years old, joined Paderborn in January 2019 on a two-and-a-half-year contract from Rot-Weiss Essen. He played for them in the Bundesliga last season but they were relegated after their first year back. The winger stuck around for this year but could now be on his way to MLS.

Goalkeeper joins

The Sounders have boosted their goalkeeping department by bringing in Spencer Richey on a free transfer, as announced by their official club website.

He spent last year at FC Cincinnati but was released at the end of the season. The 6ft 2inc stopper is a sensible acquisition and strengthens their goalkeeping department.

He is experienced in MLS and has played for Seattle’s rivals Vancouver Whitecaps in the past.

One in, one out

Richey’s arrival has paved the way for youngster Trey Muse to leave on loan for USL Championship side San Diego Loyal. Muse, who is 21 years old, will benefit from getting some more first-team experience under his belt and the Sounders will want to see how he develops there.

The ‘keeper spent time on loan at Tacoma Defiance last year and will be looking forward to getting some more game time. He is a highly-rated young stopper who has played for the USA’s Under-20’s in the past.
