There are quite a few options in the Austrian Bundesliga, but I went with Marco Grüll from SV Ried because of his age, valuation on Transfermarkt, and position. At 22 years of age, Grüll has yet to get an opportunity at a club outside Austria.
He has been exceptional in the second Austrian League and Austrian Bundesliga. Last season, in the second Austrian league, Grüll scored 13 goals and added 13 assists in 29 matches. He’s continued his excellent form this season scoring five goals and two assists through eleven games.
While not the flashy, well-known options I listed above, he’s someone who has shown he can be successful in a respectable league. Transfermarkt also says he can play as an LW, CF, and RW, so he adds more versatility to Toronto’s attack. He is also very reliable as he has only been substituted six times over the last two seasons.
Grüll is the most realistic option so far, in my opinion, because of his market value and success in a non-major league. At only 22, he still has potential and could be a good option for Toronto on the wing as someone who can score and stay on the pitch for a full 90, which is useful to have in a DP.
