Columbus Crew’s Chris Cadden is wanted in Scotland and England
Columbus Crew’s Chris Cadden is a wanted man this winter. He is on the radar of Scottish Premiership side Hibernian and English League One outfit Oxford United, according to a report by the Daily Record. The Crew have a decision to make as to whether to sell him or keep him in their roster for 2021.
Cadden, who is 24 years old, was part of Caleb Porter’s side who won the MLS Cup this past year for just the second time in their history. However, he made just 10 appearances in all competitions and may get more game time elsewhere. The Crew needs to weigh up if he is part of their long-term plans, and if not, they are likely to let him return closer to home.
He started his career in Scotland with Motherwell and went on to play 139 games for them after breaking into their first-team as a younger, scoring 12 goals. He also had a loan spell away in the lower leagues at Albion Rovers before establishing himself a key player for the Well.
Columbus came calling for him in 2019 but they loaned him to Oxford for the 2019/20 season. He helped the U’s get to the League One Playoff final in the last campaign and Karl Robinson’s men wanted to sign him on a permanent basis last summer. However, Columbus wanted to keep him and shunned any interest there was.
The Crew are now facing fresh interest from Oxford as well as Hibernian. The latter could offer Cadden a route back home to Scotland and a bid in January may tempt Columbus into selling. He also needs to make the decision on whether he sees a future for himself in America or wants to return home.
