New England Revolution have signed goalkeeper Earl Edwards Jr.

New England Revolution have completed a deal to sign goalkeeper Earl Edwards Jr. He becomes the latest addition to Bruce Arena’s roster for the 2021 season, as announced by their official club website.

Edwards, who is 28 years old, has been snapped up by the Revs on a free transfer and is expected to provide cover and competition to their current goalkeeping options next year. Their number one is Matt Turner but Edwards will give the MLS side another option.

The 6ft 3inc ‘keeper is experienced and is a shrewd signing by New England. He was available after leaving DC United and bringing him in was a no-brainer for Arena. They got to the playoffs this past season and will be hoping to make it one step further in 2021.

Edwards started his career at the college level with UCLA before playing in the Premier Development League for Ventura County Fusion and Seattle Sounders’ Under-23 side. He gained recognition and was signed by Orlando City five years ago. He was a regular for the Lions’ B team during his time in Florida and was used as a back-up to their first-team for three campaigns.
