Columbus Crew are interested in Bradley Wright-Phillips
Columbus Crew want to sign Bradley Wright-Phillips. The MLS Cup champions are keen to sharpen their attacking options for next year by throwing the forward a life-line during the off-season, as per Patrick Murphy from the Columbus Dispatch.
Wright-Phillips, who is 35 years old, is available after spending the past season with LAFC. Bob Bradley’s side opted against re-signing him at the end of their last campaign and he is currently a free agent. The Englishman will be weighing up his next move and Columbus could be an exciting proposition for him.
The former England youth international scored nine goals in 20 games this past year and won the MLS Comeback Player of the Season. He is the sixth most prolific goal scorer in MLS history and is not showing signs of hanging up his boots just yet. The veteran moved to America in 2013 and signed for New York Red Bulls. He became an instant hit with the New Jersey side and went on to score 126 goals in 240 games.
Wright-Phillips plied his trade with spells at Manchester City, Southampton, Plymouth Argyle, Charlton Athletic, and Brentford before deciding to jump ship and move to the Red Bulls.
LA has been his most recent home but the Crew could now lure him to Ohio. Caleb Porter’s side will be eager to boost their roster over the coming months to ensure they are strong again in 2021 and ready to make a push to retain their MLS Cup.
