Sporting Kansas City are not signing West Ham United defender Winston Reid after loan spell
Sporting Kansas City have opted not to sign West Ham United defender Winston Reid on a permanent basis. Reid, who is 32 years old, spent the past year in MLS and made 12 appearances.
He joined Peter Vermes‘ side on a loan deal having fallen down the pecking order at West Ham in the Premier League. However, he will not be sticking around in Kansas City with them deciding not to sign him for good, as per The Kansas City Star.
Sporting KC will be looking to bring in another centre-back in preparation for the next campaign with Matt Besler also departing the club after 11 years.

Reid will have to decide on his next move. He still has three years left on his contract at West Ham but is unlikely to have a future with David Moyes’ men now.
The New Zealand international signed for the Hammers in 2011 from Danish Superliga outfit FC Midtjylland and they were relegated from the top flight in his first year at the club.
However, he played a key part in their immediate promotion from the Championship the season after. Reid has been a good servant to the London club, making 222 appearances in all competitions. He hasn’t featured for them in the past two years though, hence why he was allowed to leave on loan for Sporting KC in February.
You could argue his spell with the Wizards didn’t really work out this year as he didn’t do enough for them to sign him permanently. They lost in the Playoff’s again and are left licking their wounds and pondering what lies in store next year. Reid won’t be back in Kansas City, neither will Besler for the first time in over a decade, but next year provides them with an opportunity to sport a new-look backline.
