USMNT abroad: Goals from Pulisic and Reyna highlight weekend action
By Daniel Garza
There were plenty of goals from USMNT players this weekend in Europe.
It was quite the weekend for United States Men’s National Team players all across Europe. On Saturday, three different players found the back of the net in three different leagues. This marked the first time that three USMNT players have scored in the Bundesliga, Serie, and Premier League all on the same day.
Giovanni Reyna was the first player to score on Saturday as he registered the match tying goal for Borussia Dortmund against Eintracht Frankfurt. It was the 18-year-old forward’s second goal of the 2020/21 Bundesliga campaign and his third in all competitions.
In Italy, Weston McKennie registered his first goal for Juventus in a 2-1 victory over Torino. The midfielder headed home the goal that tied things up at 1-1 and paved the way for Juventus to score the match-winning goal in the 89th minute. This was a big goal for McKennie as he helped contribute towards a winning effort that Juventus very much needed to remain in the top four places in Serie A.
Christian Pulisic scored for Chelsea in a 3-1 win over Leeds United to register his first goal of the 2020/21 Premier League season. This was just the third appearance Pulisic has made since returning from a hamstring injury that kept him out of the lineup for just over a month. Hopefully, the USMNT star can remain healthy and continue to have a positive impact at Chelsea for the remainder of the campaign.

The three aforementioned players weren’t the only USMNT eligible players to get on the scoresheet this weekend. In Serie B, Andrija Novakovich had a two-goal performance for Frosinone in a 3-2 victory over Chievo Verona. So far this season Novakovich has four goals in 10 league appearances.
Haji Wright recorded his seventh goal of the season for SønderjyskE in a 2-1 victory over Nordsjælland. Wright is currently tied for first place in most goals scored in the Danish Superliga this season. He leads the league in goals per 90 minutes with an average of 1.11 goals per 90 minutes played.
In Argentina, Alan Soñora scored the match-winning goal for Independiente in their 1-0 win over Defensa y Justicia. His match-winner was his first goal of the Copa del la Superliga.
