Who Gets The Final Home Playoff Game In The West?

Current Standings:

  • FCD – 34 from 21 (1.62 PPG)
  • MIN – 31 from 20 (1.55)

‘Decision Day’ Fixtures: FCD @ Minnesota United, MIN v FC Dallas

There is a straight shootout for the final spot in the top four in the Western Conference, where a home tie in the first round of the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs is on offer, as FC Dallas and Minnesota United go head-to-head on Sunday afternoon.

The Texan side currently holds a three-point advantage over their Western Conference rivals, but they have played a game more, meaning they sit just 0.07 PPG ahead of the Loons going into their crunch clash this weekend. If FC Dallas can stop Minnesota from winning, they claim 4th spot and a home game in the playoffs.

On the flip side of the coin, the Loons must win to secure that 4th spot, with the three points being enough to leapfrog the Texan side. A Minnesota win could set up a rematch in the first week of the playoffs as the No.4 seed will host the No.5 seed.

The only other team that could get in amongst that the reigning Supporters’ Shield holders Los Angeles FC. They also sit three points behind FC Dallas, but because the Texan side faces Minnesota, mathematically, LAFC are unable to break the top four. They could move into the No.5 spot depending on other results, but this battle comes down to what happens at Allianz Field on Sunday afternoon.
