USMNT: Aron Johannsson continues his impressive season in Sweden
By Daniel Garza
Striker Aron Johannsson continues to find the back of the net in Sweden.
It was another successful appearance for Aron Johannsson in the Allsvenskan. The USMNT striker registered his 12th goal of the campaign in all competitions for Hammarby. The Swedish club defeated Mjällby 4-2 on Sunday to remain unbeaten in their last three league matches. Johannsson was part of a flurry of goals for Hammarby in the opening 15 minutes of the match. The American international scored in just the fifth minute.
Johannsson’s goal on Sunday increases his season total to nine goals in 18 appearances in the Allsvenskan. He’s now scored three goals in his last three appearances. The 29-year-old is making a strong case to be included in future USMNT camps and matches. With possible matches scheduled to occur in November, it could be the perfect opportunity for Johannsson to feature for the USMNT again.
Goals in Denmark
Two USMNT players found the back of the net in the Danish Superliga. Emmanuel Sabbi and Haji Wright were the goalscorers. Sabbi scored for Odense against reigning Danish champions Midtjylland in a 3-1 loss. Wright’s goal came against Brøndby as SønderjyskE won 2-0 over their opponents.

Much like the aforementioned Johannsson, these two players could very well be included in the reported November USMNT camp and friendlies. Sabbi has scored two goals in five league appearances and Wright has four goals in five appearances. Both players are off to very good starts in their respective seasons in Denmark.
Christian Pulisic back in action
The Premier League returned to action as the October international break came to a close. Christian Pulisic made his first start for Chelsea since the FA Cup final against Arsenal in August when he left with an injury. Pulisic played for 87 minutes in the match as it finished 3-3 between Chelsea and Southampton. One of the best moments for Pulisic in the match came on Kai Havertz’s goal. The USMNT midfielder picked out Timo Werner who then fed the ball to Havertz for the goal.
Elsewhere in the Premier League, Tim Ream and Antonee Robinson were in action for Fulham. Both players were named to the starting XI and played the entire match as it finished 1-1 between Fulham and Sheffield United.
Other notable performances
USMNT defender Matt Miazga made his debut for Anderlecht in Belgium. Miazga was named to Vincent Kompany’s starting XI and played the entire match. The match finished tied as Anderlecht picked up a point against Leuven.
Sergino Dest made his first career start for Barcelona as they faced Getafe on Saturday. The USMNT defender played the entire match and finished with two tackles and two shot-creating actions. It ended up being a shock result for Barcelona as they fell 1-0 to Getafe.
In the Bundesliga, Giovanni Reyna got another start for Borussia Dortmund. He finished with four shots and completed 86% of his passes in the 1-0 victory over Hoffenheim. Reyna will be one to watch in the UEFA Champions League this week as he could get another start for Dortmund against Lazio. He has yet to score a Champions League goal but that could change on Tuesday.
There were three other USMNT players in the Bundesliga this weekend who were named to the starting XI for their clubs. These players were Tyler Adams, Josh Sargent, and John Brooks. Adams had two shot-creating actions and completed 83% of his passes as RB Leipzig won 2-0 over Augsburg to go top of the table in the Bundesliga. Sargent had one shot and four shot-creating actions in Werder Bremen’s 1-1 draw with Freiburg. It was also a draw for Brooks and Wolfsburg against Mönchengladbach. The USMNT defender finished with one interception and three blocks.
