USMNT abroad: Aron Johannsson leads Hammarby to victory
By Daniel Garza
Aron Jóhannsson continues to score on Hammarby
It has been a terrific season so far for Aron Johannsson in the Swedish top flight. The USMNT striker increased his season goal total to eight goals in 16 appearances against Faleknburg on Sunday. Johannsson scored what proved to be the match-winner in the 66th minute and then converted a second-half stoppage-time penalty kick to wrap up the victory.
The 29-year-old ranks fifth in the Allsvenskan for goals scored and only trails the leading player Christoffer Nyman by four goals. Johannsson will need a few more multi-goal matches if he is to catch Nyman and claim the top scorer crown. He has been a strong player for Hammarby and certainly has the ability to continue scoring goals for the Swedish club.
Josh Sargent picks up an assist, Haji Wright scores a brace
Another USMNT striker fared well in weekend action. Werder Bremen’s Josh Sargent registered his first assist of the Bundesliga season against Schalke. The 20-year-old headed a ball to Niclas Füllkrug off a corner kick and Füllkrug scored his first of three goals in the match. Sargent has one goal and one assist in three appearances in all competitions for Bremen so far this season.
