MLS Power Rankings: Philadelphia Union and Seattle Sounders both climb
By Matt Coles
MLS Power Rankings: 3. Toronto FC (-1)
They maintain a position in the top three of our MLS Power Rankings, but Toronto FC have slipped down from 2nd to 3rd, following a draw with D.C. United on Saturday. They also fell out of the top two in the East with that result.
Goals from Alejandro Pozuelo and Ayo Akinola had seen the Canadian side turn the game on its head after an early Ola Kamara strike. B a late equaliser from Griffin Yow led to TFC stumbling and only taking a point from the clash.
They now sit in 4th spot in the Eastern Conference, five behind the league-leading Columbus Crew, the side they face next weekend. Before that, TFC have a tricky test against New York City FC. Four points from their two games this week would be a very good return.
This Week’s Fixtures: @ New York City FC (Wed 23, 7 pm ET), vs. Columbus Crew (Sun 27, 7:30 pm ET)

MLS Power Rankings: 2. Philadelphia Union (+1)
Moving into the top two for the first time this season on our MLS Power Rankings are the Philadelphia Union. This came right after they dismantled the in-form Montreal Impact in the lone game on Sunday night.
A double from Kacper Przybylko, one coming either side of the half-time interval, along with goals from Alejandro Bedoya and Anthony Fontana, saw the Union cruise to a 4-1 victory over ten-man Montreal. Mind you, they had Romell Quioto both on the scoresheet, and in the referee’s book.
The Union sit three points off the top of the table following their big win and will be expecting to take a full six points from this week’s fixtures. They face last year’s expansion side FC Cincinnati, before coming up against one of this year’s new teams, Inter Miami CF.
This Week’s Fixtures: @ FC Cincinnati (Wed 23, 7:30 pm ET), vs. Inter Miami CF (Sun 27, 7:30 pm ET)
MLS Power Rankings: 1. Columbus Crew SC (=)
The Crew maintain top spot in our MLS Power Rankings, having done so in the Eastern Conference and Supporters’ Shield standings as well. The Yellow and Black have kept their three-point lead at the top of the table.
Their one match this week came against expansion side Nashville SC on Saturday evening, where goals from Pedro Santos and Gyasi Zardes were enough to see them take the three points. This enabled them to stretch their unbeaten run in the league to five, with three of those being wins.
They have that three-point lead at the top, but go into a tricky double-header this week, with clashes against Minnesota United and Toronto FC, who both sit in 4th spot in their respective Conferences.
This Week’s Fixtures: vs. Minnesota United (Wed 23, 7:30 pm ET), @ Toronto FC (Sun 27, 7:30 pm ET)
