USMNT abroad: Reyna’s goal and McKennie’s debut grab the headlines
By Daniel Garza
Gio Reyna and Weston McKennie grabbed all the headlines abroad
It was a busy weekend for the USMNT players in Europe. Giovanni Reyna scored for Borussia Dortmund in one of the big highlights from the weekend of action. The 17-year-old registered his first-ever Bundesliga goal and drew a penalty kick in the 3-0 victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach. Reyna had scored earlier in the week during the DFB-Pokal win over Duisburg. Overall, it was a very impressive week from the USMNT rising star.
The goal scored by Reyna sees him become the second-youngest American player to score a goal in the German top flight. Current Chelsea player Christian Pulisic is the youngest. There’s no doubt Reyna is on a path to a very good start to his career at Dortmund. He will continue to be a top player to watch as the season continues in Europe.
