USWNT stars Tobin Heath and Christen Press are joining Manchester United

The English FA Women’s Super League will be featuring two more United States Women’s National Team players. Jonathan Tannenwald of The Philadelphia Inquirer is reporting Tobin Heath and Christen Press will be joining Manchester United. Both players are currently key members of the United States Women’s National Team. They have each made over 100 appearances for the senior team.

Heath would be joining Manchester United from the Utah Royals and Press from the Portland Thorns. The two forwards are key contributors for their respective clubs which would be a huge loss for them as the National Women’s Soccer League begins to play again.

The latest to join Manchester United

Heath and Press are not the first USWNT players to make the move to England this year. Recently, Rose Lavelle and Sam Mewis signed with Manchester City. There are a growing number of international stars signing with clubs in England and these four USWNT players are among the latest to join.

Both Manchester City and Manchester United are among the best in the FA WSL. Last season, City finished second while United was fourth.

One big difference Lavelle and Mewis will have is their participation in the UEFA Women’s Champions Leauge. City qualified for the continental competition while United did not qualify.

The two Manchester clubs are certainly adding top-class players in the USWNT duos they have signed to help them go after the title in the 2020/21 campaign. It’s shaping up to be a big season in the FA WSL.

Can Christen Press win the Golden Boot?

Press is one of the best strikers the USWNT has available. She has proven to be an effective striker in European leagues before as she claimed the Golden Boot during the 2016 Damallsvenska season in Sweden. With Manchester United, she will be well-positioned to be one of the top scorers in the league.

The 31-year-old won the Golden Ball at the CONCACAF Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament, which is awarded to the top player at the competition. She has what it takes to be a top player in the FA WSL.

One of the players Press will have to compete with for the top goal scorer spot is Arsenal’s Vivianne Miedema. The Dutch striker has won the Golden Boot for the past two seasons and is one of the best forwards in the world. She will not be easy to dethrone and it shows the quality the FA WSL currently has.

For both Press and Heath, the FA WSL will be providing great competition and a new challenge. With the 2021 Olympic Games on the horizon, the upcoming season in England will provide the necessary preparation to perform well in Tokyo, Japan next summer.
