But their ability to grind out results comes mainly from the center-back partnership of Antonio Carlos and Robin Jansson and the excellent midfield anchor in front of them, comprised of Jhegson Mendez and Oriol Rosell.
Carlos, who is on loan from Brazilian side Palmeiras, mirrors the aerial dominance of Jansson. They are formidable from crosses, impossible to bully, and are protected by those around them with shorter, quicker combination play in and around the penalty area. They are not the fastest, but they don’t need to be with an excellent double-pivot and two of the best full-backs in MLS protecting them.
Ahead of them, Mendez has been quick to respond to counter-attacks and his pace helps alleviate some of the pressure from the two big men. Meanwhile, Oriol Rosell is the calming influence in the heart of it all. He has a strong, physical frame, but is exceptional on the ball, redistributing possession to instigate attacks and dictate the tempo.
Orlando have scored only one goal in three of their MLS is Back matches. And yet, they have not lost a single game. That is down to the defensive anchors that ensure safety in the defensive third.
