MLS is Back: Top 5 Performances from Matchday Three

Taking the top spot on the list of the best performances from the final round of group games are the only team to have gone through the first stage of the tournament with a perfect record, the Columbus Crew.

The Black and Yellow started the group stage off in the perfect way, thanks to a resounding four-goal over their Hell is Real rival FC Cincinnati before then dispatching the New York Red Bulls by a 2-0 scoreline.

They came into their third and final group game knowing that a point would assure them of the top spot in Group E, but they went and got more than that, claiming victory with a single goal against Atlanta United, and in the process, condemning the Five Stripes to their first-ever three-game losing streak.

The sole goal of the clash came in the 18th minute, and the Crew worked the ball around effectively, drawing the Atlanta defence out of position, allowing Youness Mokhtar enough time to hit his shot on target. There was a slight deflection which did enough to get it past Brad Guzan, but Mokhtar was credited with the goal.

The Crew have to be labelled as one of the favourites to go all the way to the title game and perhaps even win it all, but they face a tricky test against Minnesota United in the last 16, one of the other sides who still remain unbeaten in 2020.
