4. Matt Turner

It is not often that a player from a goalless draw gets on our top five performers list, but the Toronto and New England match saw both goalkeepers keep clean sheets, with Revolution shot-stopper Matt Turner taking the No. 4 spot for keeping his side in the match.

If there had have been a winner of this clash on Tuesday morning, that side would have secured the top spot in Group C and easier passage through to the knockout stages. Instead, it finished 0-0, thanks to Turner in the Revs goal.

Toronto had the better chances, but neither side could break the deadlock. In the 80th minute, the tournament’s top scorer, Ayo Akinola, who already had five goals through the opening two matches, went through on goal. Turner managed to get a big hand to it o keep the match level, and assure qualification through to the knockout stages for the Revolution.

The Revs will face off against the Philadelphia Union in the last 16, with both sides having come through the group stages unbeaten. If they are to advance any further, New England will have to hope that Turner’s form remains at its very best, as Kacper Przybylko and the Union attack will bring everything at them.
