1. Expect a defensive battle

Both of these teams lean on a resolute defense and sometimes slightly workmanlike attacking play. The Revolution scored just twice in the group stage. Instead, they have relied on a resilient backline, which, coupled with Matt Turner’s fine goalkeeping, has only conceded once all tournament.

In turn, the Union have only conceded twice and scored four goals in three games. The numbers aren’t eye-popping and the style in which both teams play could signal a defensive battle. They rely on an intense high press and excellent defensive discipline to squeeze the space in matches and suffocate their opponents.

Of course, that does not mean there is no offensive talent on the pitch. Even if Carles Gil misses out as is expected, the likes of Aaronson, Gustavo Bou, Kacper Przybyłko, and Adam Buksa provide some of the most exciting and nuanced attacking players in the league.

Nevertheless, if true to form, this will be a hard-fought game that may be decided by defensive errors, not offensive inspiration.
