LAFC Vs Portland Timbers: 3 things we learned – Timbers top Group F
By Daniel Garza
1. Wright-Phillips back to his old ways
It is now three goals in three appearances for Bradley Wright-Phillips in the Black and Gold of LAFC. He scored an absolutely fantastic goal in this match that left the Timbers goalkeeper Steve Clark with no chance, thumping a finish from distance. Alongside the Timbers’ Jeremy Ebobisse, he became the only player in the tournament to score in every match.
The two-time MLS Golden Boot winner is on course to produce another memorable season in the league. His finishing has been clinical so far with two top-class goals against the LA Galaxy and the Timbers displaying what he can do when he is allowed just an inch of space.
He certainly looks motivated to get back to his old form of scoring goals for fun. Last season, Wright-Phillips looked tired, as if his age was beginning to catch up to him. However, after leaving the New York Red Bulls, he now seems revitalised.
LAFC will need Wright-Phillips to produce another terrific performance when they face the Seattle Sounders. Can he make it four goals in four matches? Given his current form, there is a good chance he will.
