2. The attack wakes up

In a wonderful display, the Chicago Red Stars finally broke the goalscoring seal.

After spending the entire tournament failing to turn it on in the final third, it seemed as though they may never actually click in and around the penalty box. They lack confidence, played with uncertainty and a lack of purpose, and ultimately did not create enough chances or take enough shots to challenge their opponents.

Here, however, everything changed. The Red Stars may have only conjured up seven shots, but four of them were on target. Of those four shots on target, there were goals. It was a lesson in clinical finishing.

While most were expecting Kealia Watt to be the main key in breaking the scoring drought, it was actually Savannah McCaskill who played the main role in directing and facilitating the offense from attacking midfield. She might not be a traditional number 10 — she does a whole lot more running than a normal 10 — but McCaskill proves time and time again that she has the technical ability to piece together attacks. That was the case here as the Red Stars attack finally came to the party.
