Montreal Impact Vs D.C. United: 3 things we learned – Hope for the Impact
By Daniel Garza
1. Thierry Henry shows progress
The victory against D.C. United was Thierry Henry’s second victory in MLS as the Montreal Impact head coach. In his first five matches at the helm, he’s gone 2-1-2. Tuesday’s win might also be his most important so far as it could land the club in the knockout round.
Qualifying for the knockout round would be a welcome result for the Impact in this competition. After not making the cut for the MLS Cup playoffs in 2019, Henry has the Impact heading in the right direction. His time at Monaco may not have gone as planned, but there appears to be something brewing with the Impact.
He arrived at a club that had struggled to break into the MLS elite. They lost their star player in the offseason and have had to deal with a lack of roster investment. Now, though, they are improving under Henry’s tutelage. The Impact have been competitive in every match so far this season and the players seem to be working hard for their new manager.
If the Montreal Impact continue to play this way, they will continue to get good results, whether that be in the knockout stages or not. Henry has shown he’s the right man for the job in the early stages of the season and the Impact may not be done just yet making noise in this tournament.
