1. Fire looking to pick up form

If all goes to plan, the Chicago Fire will score goals and come out victorious. Even in their spirited performance against the San Jose Earthquakes, the Whitecaps shipped plenty at the other end and handed Matias Almeyda’s the chance to play some lovely, confidence-building soccer.

With the knockout stages looming, every team assured of advancing to the Round of 16 will look to carry significant momentum with them. The Fire are no exception.

The strike partnership of Robert Beric and Charles Sapong hasn’t flourished yet with only the former chipping in with goals. Midfielder Luka Stojanovic was injured against the Earthquakes and will miss the rest of the tournament.

Djordje Mihaailovic hasn’t nailed down a starting spot and will need to produce the goods sooner rather than later. Then there are the new signings, including Ignacio Aliseda. Can they continue their acclimation to a new team and league before the high-profile knockout matches begin?

Chicago has their fate in their hands against a shorthanded Vancouver team. But they will also want to produce an excellent performance as they look to build momentum for what is to come.
