1. Both teams remain dangerous

This draw leaves both teams on five points. Toronto FC, currently sitting in first place, are assured of their place in the knockout round, while the New England Revolution could slip to third should D.C. United beat the Montreal Impact. Even in that instance, however, five points should be enough to see them through to the knockout stages.

Moving forward, it will be fascinating to see how Toronto and New England cope in the knockout stages. Both have creative talents capable of winning matches. Their defenses are resilient, capable of stifling opposing attacking units, while in Greg Vanney and Bruce Arena, they have incredible experience in knockout tournaments in the dugout.

New England will likely be handed a tougher draw once all is said and done. It will depend on D.C.’s result tonight, as well as which third-place teams qualify, but now that they are assured to finish behind Toronto, they will likely face a group winner or second-place finisher.
