1. Sounders still alive

The Seattle Sounders are still alive. But only just. Thus win leapfrogs them into second place for the time being. However, their four points from three games might not be enough. Seattle will have to wait and see how results go for a shot of advancing.

The Rave Green started out slowly, drawing against group winners San Jose before losing to Chicago. The Fire can clinch second place if they beat Vancouver. In that instance, the Sounders must finish in the top four third-place finishes. After pummeling their Cascadia rivals, the boost in goal differential bodes well for sneaking into the last 16.

Should they advance, either as a surprise second place or as one of the four best third-placed teams, all bets are off. Everyone knows how good this team is in a tournament format. They are the defending MLS Cup champions, are superb on the counter-attack, and are blessed with terrific experience in big games.
