MLS is Back: Top 5 performances from Matchday Two
By Matt Coles
3. Chicago Fire
Instead of just a single player making it into the No.3 spot for best performance this week, the entire Chicago Fire side gets a place on our list, as they returned to action for the first time since the suspension of the league, overcoming Seattle Sounders by a single goal.

The two sides had played on the opening weekend of the season, where the game had finished in a draw after the Rave Green rescued a point late on. They tried to do the same in this one, but the new-look Fire held on for all three points, their first win of 2020. This was Chicago’s first game of the tournament, after the reshuffling of the groups following the withdrawals of both Nashville SC and FC Dallas prior to the tournament beginning.
After a goalless first half in Orlando, Chicago broke the deadlock through Robert Beric, the same man who scored their goal in the season-opener against the same opponent over 15 weeks ago.
This time, Seattle equalised earlier on, with Handwalla Bwana grabbing their first goal of the tournament on the 77th minute, following a scoreless draw with San Jose Earthquakes in their first game of the tournament.
The Fire would not be denied the three points, though, as a winner from Mauricio Pineda six minutes from time gave them the victory, exacting revenge for missing out on the win at the start of the season and getting their tournament off to the perfect start.
