Wondolowski scores again

Chris Wondolowski broke the MLS Goalscoring record against the Chicago Fire last season, so it’s only fitting that he scores the game-clinching goal against this same opponent.

The way he scored was classic Wondolowski. Oftentimes, it is as if he reads the minds of opponents and teammates alike. He always seems to find himself in the right place at the right time. This was no different, drifting between the Fire center-backs and nodding home the cross. The goal came shortly after a spell of increased Fire pressure, including a goal that was ruled offside, and crucially ended the match as a contest.

The 2-0 victory for the San Jose Earthquakes means they have secured their progression to the knockout stage of the MLS is Back Tournament as the winner of Group B. They went unbeaten, were the dominant team in all three matches, including the 0-0 draw versus Seattle, and will fancy their chances to go far in the knockout stages.
